June Bug

I'm pretty sure old Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was writing about a 3 year old when he penned "There was a Little Girl" way back in the olden days. Because his words are pretty spot on. June is kind and helpful and funny and silly and generous and creative and happy and sweet and so many other positive accolades . . . until she's not.

June is always on the go these days and she loves being the line leader or as she likes  to call it "The Engine."

June is full of silliness and has moments when she prefers to be a baby. She'll baby-talk, crawl around, use sign language for words she knows. I'm sure it's all part of seeing Lily get more attention and also part of growing more independent. We indulge it when we can.

On the big girl front, June is making strides in potty training after a long and frustrating spell of consistent accidents. We've been at it for over a year and while we're not done yet, I see hope for the first time. One of her favorite potty rewards is Kindle-time in the hammock--which is currently in our living room until warmer weather.

Lately, June is loving putting her own barrettes in her hair, teaching her imaginary students, riding her scooter, and drawing stick figure pictures of us.

June is learning to mimic and create her own insults. Mike and I love to joke around and call the girls Turd-Face. June has upped the ante and returned the favor by calling us Turd-Face with a butt on your face! It's funny, but I imagine soon enough she'll be saying that at school and getting in trouble. Whoops!

June still loves cooking with me and relishes any chances to use her "recipe books." She's getting better and better at being able to level off a measuring cup, and at identifying ingredients. The other day she grabbed the baking powder correctly on the first shot--even I usually grab the baking soda by mistake.

Even though she likes being a baby from time to time, June is happiest when she gets to be a big sister. She's so proud when she teaches Lily something and she loves to do things for Lil (and make Lily do things). She'll get snacks for the two of them, cut food for Lily, and dole out the toys that Lil's allowed to play with. Most of the time they are really sweet together.
