Holiday Train

Last week the holiday train rolled through our neighborhood. Because of a busy week(end), we had basically one day to catch a ride...and it was 20*. I was feeling stupid brave, so we bundled up and headed out. The walk there wasn't too bad.

Everybody's happy...so far

Then as we started walking down into the station, Lil decided she DID NOT WANT TO RIDE A TRAIN. Not sure why, but she suddenly was upset about being at a train station and threw a shitfit for a few minutes, demanding to go home. Sorry kid, we're in too deep.

Train arrived, we got on and it was packed and after several minutes of death stares at able-bodied adults, I procured two seats for the girls. They were overwhelmed by the music and the crowds, and June was in a panic that she had not yet received a candy cane from the elf.

But she finally got her sugar fix, Lil started dancing and we enjoyed the ride. My worries about being cold were silly. I was sweating on the train.

All was good again until we got off the train and headed to Mike's office. I checked my map to make sure I was heading the right way. Or so I thought. Apparently I was facing south, not north. So my left turn took us 3 blocks out of the way. Halfway through our corrected route, June was crying from the cold. (I was on the verge too! Carrying a toddler and dragging a preschooler, I was sweating and freezing at the same time.) I almost hailed a cab. But I bribed her with hot chocolate at Daddy's office and she kept going. Oh the power of sugar! Another holiday tradition checked off the list. And despite the snafu, I'm still glad we got out that afternoon.
